This year, we invite you into Dreams — a shared space where ideas turn into reality, and where the community collectively funds what wants to be born at Decompression!

Dreams is a platform where anyone can propose a dream for Decompression Helsinki 2026 — a dream you genuinely want to bring into the world. A dream can be an artwork, a ritual, a space, a performance, a service, or a moment of magic — anything that contributes to the shared experience and needs a budget. You describe what you want to create, commit to realizing it, set a budget, and invite the community to help make it happen.

Not everything at Decompression comes through Dreams — but if your dream needs funding, this is the path it travels!

And here’s the radical part:
everyone with a ticket becomes a funder!

There will be two community funding rounds, during which every ticket holder gets to distribute real money to the dreams they believe in.

The Dreams platform opens together with ticket sales. From January 7th to February 14th, you can publish your dream and let it take shape. The first funding round opens on February 21st, when we come together to support the dreams that resonate most.

Welcome to co-create Helsinki Decompression 2026 - it is going to be amazing! ✨

Another amazing year for Finnish burners is in its final stretch. Our main local event, Helsinki Decompression last April, was a great success and has received international applause for reaching a world-class burner event status (yes, it has always been like that, they've just hesitated in giving the praise so loud until now <3). BRSS camp survived Burning Man's this year's not-so-welcoming and extreme weather conditions and exited Black Rock City with a smile and the expected afterglow.

A lot of new members have been introduced to the community and their participation has been heartwarming and sparkling - thank you all for joining the community and making it more vivid! Let's keep this flow going on!

This year also seemed to be a fruitful burner baby year! Their participation has not been that mentionable in for example volunteer shifts yet, but we can do their share while waiting their radical self-expression to occur first. Welcome to the already born and still expected folks, and congratulations to the new parents! <3

Cheers for 2025 - let's make 2026 be even more co-creative and inclusive!

  Oilery is a new kind of enabler for community-driven events. It's first experience at the Old Morgue is part of Helsinki city's experiment in searching for new ways to use these kinds of spaces owned by the city.
  Oilery at the Old Morgue is a communal clubhouse where anyone can co-create events and experiences, a low-threshold space for new makers and audiences who may not yet belong to any community and a testbed for new business models in urban culture, art, and events.
  If you’re an artist, maker, collective, producer, neighborhood association, small business or just “event-curious”, you can ideate and host events, sell your art or crafts, use the space for rehearsals, workshops, clubs and more.   Cross Borders Dance Club is a public space (mainly in Helsinki) for lovers of freeform dance and genre-defying music. Music includes world, soul, rock, trance, ambient, pop, country & beyond. • Save the date: Helsinki Decompression 2026!
  Helsinki Decompression 2026 will be organized again during Easter 2026. There's still uncertainty about the next year's venue, but this community will gather in a way or another to decompress the weight of our daily lives. More information coming up soon!

TWISTING THE FOMO KNIFE:

October-November was full of burner-related, -spirited and -created events, which at least the undersigned completely missed. Who knows for example how many Marsupotamias and Bassotunneli's events have gone by the wayside, one famous venue's 10th anniversary celebration was missed, the opening weekend of our burner community members' hosted DelGalleria's new venue's opening weekend was not experienced, and so on.

To prevent this from happening to me, you or other fellow burners again, it is a good idea for the organizers to report these primarily in the Finnish burners' FB group.

If you would like your event to be featured on this newsletter, please send me an email with a tip about them - please note, however, that this newsletter is produced entirely voluntarily and as my available free time allows, which is why communication in the FB group should be preferred as the primary communication channel. Scienceart installation Burner AI travels to Burning Man 2025’s Man Pavilion

Burner AI, created by the science-art collective Burning Stories originating from Aalto University, has been selected as part of the Burning Man 2025 Man Pavilion art program. The Pavilion is a curated, invitation-only exhibition showcasing works that explore the future through the lenses of art, science, and imagination.
Responding to the invitation, Burning Stories collective led by Dr. Jukka-Pekka “Dr Snuggles” Heikkilä will bring a work to the heart of Black Rock City where an AI shares wisdoms and converses the collective wisdom of burners in the middle of the desert.

Burner AI is an interactive physical installation powered by solar energy and designed to run entirely offline in Black Rock City. It is grounded on years of fieldwork collecting hundreds of stories at festivals and hundreds of research articles studying community transformation. The installation offers participants the chance to both hear and share experiences of transformation, radical self-expression, and communal living. It merges technology, research, and art, in deep alignment with the principles of Burning Man.

An online version of the project is available at burning-stories.gopf.com, where you can browse hundreds of stories, explore past Burning Man art projects, or use the material as a source for research or creative inspiration. Burner AI is also part of an ongoing visual human-AI-human art series, with artworks available at burning-stories.com and upcoming Helsinki Decompression events.

Black Rock Sauna Society is a vibrant camp of 70-80 individuals from Nordic regions and across the globe, committed to fostering a deep sense of community, belonging, and unity at Burning Man. Arctic Court by Veli-Veikko Elomaa features captivating images of characters like the Snow Queen and the Luxury Clown, adorned in intricate, ice-inspired costumes that symbolize both the beauty and vulnerability of the human experience. Congratulations Joppe for your book!

Joppe Quaedvlieg - a familiar face and soul for many burners from for example Helsinki Decompression organizing team - released his first book in the beginning of April. Reaching Escape Velocity: A Proposal for an Alternative Way of Being consist of 30 mental landscapes and situations that he ponders from different approaches inviting the reader to do the same exploration.

"Through stories, spells and occasional poetry, Joppe takes us through an extended diary of his thinking and creative works to inspire us to take a leap of faith and have the courage to follow those instincts that lurk in the back of our minds."

However, during the finalization process, the emotional turmoil began to settle, and shortly before giving the final approval for printing, I realized that, in the end, it wasn’t me who wrote the book: it was written by the entire community around me."

Who benefits and in what order

After covering the basic necessities with ticket income - such as security, first aid, Teosto fees, and everything mentioned above - we allocate funds to essential infrastructure like electricity, Leave No Trace, and fencing.

The remaining income is distributed back to the community to support art projects, installations, and all the creative magic that makes Helsinki Decompression truly special. In alignment with the principles of Burning Man, any profits are used to benefit the community. We do not pay salaries - even to the production team - instead, we aim to financially support as many projects as possible.

Everything is financed purely through ticket sales: the more we sell, the more we share. ❤️‍🔥 By joining the event, you help make Helsinki Decompression shine in all its glory!

The waiting list closes on Sunday, April 6th, 2025 at 23:59 and after that there is not going to be any tickets available in the webshop.

Helsinki Decompression logo suggestion form received seven designs from five creative minds. Here they are in the order they were submitted:

The winning design nr 6, Uno Technopuro's Alter Glance got over 32% of all votes:

Here's how the artist described the creation:

"AlterGlance embodies the multifaceted nature of self-perception and identity. The name merges alter (change, the other side) and glance (a look, a fleeting view), symbolizing the moment when a mirror reveals more than just a physical reflection – it offers a new perspective on the self.

The logo’s avant-garde, curved forms create an organic, almost sculptural impression, blending modern and museum-like aesthetics. Its dynamic visual language reflects the enigmatic qualities of mirrors – light bending, optical illusions, and deeper introspection. AlterGlance is not just a logo; it is a visual gateway to self-discovery and the immersive experience of Helsinki Decompression."

Today Friday 28.2.2025 is the last day to buy Helsinki Decompression 2025 tickets with the following prices:

- Community Aunt / Uncle 130€

Almost 3/4 of the total amount of tickets (666) have already been sold! 💜 The remaining tickets will be available on webshop during 1.-31.3.2025 but with a different name and a slight price increase.

The next creation meeting is on Wed 5.3.!

Who benefits from the ticket sales and in what order

After covering the basic necessities with ticket income—such as security, first aid, Teosto fees and all mentioned above—we allocate funds to essential infrastructure like electricity, Leave No Trace and fencing. The remaining income is distributed to the community to support art projects, installations, and all the creative magic that makes Helsinki Decompression truly special! 🦄

Since everything is based on participation and the ticket sales, it's highly appreciated that the tickets are being bought well in advance:

The applications are open

As the variety of arts, artists, and programs has grown over the years, we’re introducing five different application forms this year. Take your time to review them carefully and complete your application accurately—but don’t delay! 

• Art installations, spaces & visual arts
• Stages - FIRST DEADLINE ON SUN 2.2.2025!
• Workshops and other participatory program applications
• Performing Arts & Live Music
• DJs and live electronics

Please notice that even you are planning on performing / playing a set on a stage that your team is applying and planning on creating, you also need to fill the application. Final deadline for applications is on Sunday 2.3.2025 at 23:59 except for Stages on Sun 2.2.2025.

The theme for Helsinki Decompression 2025 is Mirrors of self-discovery, and now we are inviting your creative minds to shape the event’s visuals! Your design could be featured in event communications, wristbands, and wherever the community desires!
